*HIRING* Junior Varsity Head Coach

Upper St. Clair Hockey is seeking applicants for a Head Coach at the Junior Varsity (JV) level for the 2025-26 season. Interested parties should send their coaching resumes to vpcoaching@uschockey.org by April 30, 2025. 

The JV Head Coach is responsible for leading and coaching the JV hockey team, including tryouts, practices, and games, focusing on skill development, tactical understanding, game play, and character growth for players, while working in collaboration with the Head Varsity Coach. The successful candidate will also be responsible for fostering a positive team environment/culture and promoting teamwork and sportsmanship. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated coach to make a significant impact on the development and growth of young athletes.

JV Head Coach Job Description:

  • Tryouts – Lead the evaluation of high school players alongside the Head Varsity Coach in tryout sessions on multiple evenings, planned for mid-May. This may include planning the drills to be performed in collaboration with the Head Varsity Coach.
  • Practices – Plan, organize, and lead twice-weekly JV practices throughout the season (typically Tue/Thu 5:50-6:50 but some slots may vary). 
  • Games – Prepare team for games, manage players and playing time, and set team roster, which could include potential call-ups from practice squad (if applicable, depending on number of players). Games could be once or twice per week throughout the season.
  • Off-Ice Training - Implement a training plan to improve a players physical fitness and performance. 
  • Player Development and Assessment - Provide assistance, motivation, encouragement, and feedback during competition to create accountability and ownership. Make necessary player recommendations to the Head Varsity Coach.   
  • Supervision - Prioritize player safety at all team activities, including the locker room, ensuring adherence to USA Hockey and organizational guidelines. 

Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership and motivational skills
  • Strong communication skills 
  • Works well with young players, assistant coaches, and board members
  • Previous coaching experience (preferably head coach and/or at the high school level or amateur equivalent)
  • High-level playing experience preferred
  • Must be able to get USA Hockey coaching certification and all required clearances to work with players (SafeSport, etc.)
